Water Softener Sizing FAQ
Can’t I just buy a water softener/filter with a filter built right inside to remove iron and hydrogen sulfide?
No. It has been our experience that iron can be removed with a water softener through ion exchange only. Cheap internal filters mounted inside water softeners for iron removal have been proven to fail based on inadequate backwash. These internal filters will remove iron or convert hydrogen sulfide but for a very limited time and then will plug up and fail. Replacement of the filter is costly and difficult. We do not recommend this type of softener/filter system.
